Where will I place the large braided rugs in our home?

That’s it. We’ve moved again. This is the fourth time in the last three years. I am so tired of it all. Thank God the children seem ok with it. To be a child again! So here we are, standing in the kitchen, boxes everywhere. The removers are still bringing in the final pieces of furniture.

My husband, Liam is helping the removers or at least guiding them where to go. My oldest daughter and I are opening up the boxes in the kitchen. Lucy, my daughter picks up the rugs and asks me, where should she put them. “I’ll take them sweetheart” I say. I look down at the two rugs that my mother gave me and my heart is aching. My mother gave me these rugs when Liam and I bought our first house. She received them from her mother. The rugs are considered to be lucky. My mother said they would always keep us safe and happy as a family. I sighed as I looked at the rugs and all I could think was fifth house in three years. How is that luck. How do we have luck in family if we are constantly moving. Liam has been working for the same company for 20 years now.

We left London three years ago when he was being transferred to the a small office in Sydney Australia. There we found a small apartment for rent, hardly enough room for Liam and I let alone our two children. We stayed in that apartment for six months until we found a beautiful house just outside of the city. We were only one year in that house then Liam was transferred again.

This time to Melbourne. Liam helps the setting up of new offices. Liam expressed his desire to remain in one location for at least five years but he was informed that either he moves where the job needs him or basically he leaves the company. So we spent two years in Melbourne, the children loved Melbourne, their school in particular. So it was heart breaking for them to now have to move to Edinburgh in Scotland. At least now we were closer to family. In Edinburgh we rented a large 3 bed house and stayed for over a year and a half.

And now, where are we? Back to London, we have moved back into our first house the house that Liam and I bought together five years ago, we had this house rented out while we were in Australia and Scotland. But I am not getting my hopes up apparently we are to move again within the year. So I look down at these rugs. LUCK? Where are you? Yes we are happy to be back in London but I am close on breaking. I bring the rugs upstairs where I will put them away in a blanket box, to keep them safe. Liam meets me on the stairs, he can’t contain his excitement. “This is it. This is it” He says. “What, are you on about?” I ask. “That was my boss on the phone, he’s offered me a new position. I will be in charge of the international management team. Based in London. He has agreed to sign a waver in my contract that I won’t have to live outside of London”. “That’s fantastic so this is it, we are here to stay now” I plead. “I promise” Liam assures me. He runs downstairs to tell the children.

I look down at the braided rugs and smile. How wrong I was. Here is my luck. So I place a rug in both of my children’s room to give them some of their own luck .
